Preview: Saint Bonaventure at Richmond Women’s Basketball RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — A surging Richmond squad looks to continue its dominant run in Atlantic 10 Conference play when it hosts a Saint Bonaventure team seeking consistency Wednesday night at the Robins Center. The Spiders (20-4, 11-1 A-10) enter as one of the conference’s hottest teams, having won eight straight games since a Dec. 30 loss to Rhode Island. Their average margin of victory during the streak is 22.6 points. Richmond, which sits atop the A-10 standings, previously handled the Bonnies with an 80-60 road victory on Jan. 3. Saint Bonaventure (14-11, 5-7) arrives after a dramatic 72-71 overtime win over Duquesne on Saturday, snapping a five-game skid. The Bonnies have struggled on the road in conference play, however, and face a steep challenge against a Richmond team that is 10-1 at home this season. A key matchup will feature two of the league’s top performers. Richmond is led by guard Rachel Ullstrom, who averages 17.8 points per game in conference play. She scored 18 points in the Jan. 3 meeting and is coming off an 18-point performance against George Mason. Saint Bonaventure will counter with guard Laycee Drake, who is averaging 15.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists in A-10 games. Drake posted a near double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds in the win over Duquesne and scored 29 points in a narrow loss at Dayton on Jan. 28. Richmond’s offense, averaging 77.5 points per game in conference play, will test a Bonnies defense that allows 66.2 points. The Spiders have four players averaging double figures in A-10 games, including Maggie Doogan (16.3 ppg) and Ally Sweeney (12.8 ppg). The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST. Richmond travels to Davidson on Saturday, while Saint Bonaventure visits VCU on Valentine’s Day.
