Preview: Boise State Broncos at Fresno State Bulldogs FRESNO, Calif. (Interstat) — The surging Boise State women’s basketball team looks to extend its winning streak when it visits Fresno State in a Mountain West Conference rematch Wednesday night at Save Mart Center. The Broncos (19-5) have won seven consecutive games, including a dominant 63-35 victory over New Mexico last Saturday. Their last loss came on Jan. 3. Fresno State (11-13) has been inconsistent but is coming off a 71-51 home win against Nevada, snapping a three-game skid. Boise State won the first meeting this season, 60-52, in Idaho on Jan. 21. In that game, the Bulldogs kept it close but were ultimately undone by 19 turnovers. A key matchup will feature Boise State’s versatile forward Tatum Thompson against Fresno State’s scoring guard Emilia Long. Thompson is coming off a near triple-double against New Mexico, with 13 rebounds and six assists to go with eight points. Over her last seven games, she has averaged 10.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists, showcasing her all-around game. Long has been the offensive catalyst for the Bulldogs. She exploded for 23 points in the win over Nevada and averaged 21.0 points in her two most recent victories. However, she was held to eight points on 3-of-12 shooting in the first matchup with Boise State. The Broncos have leaned on a stifling defense during their streak, holding opponents to an average of 53.1 points over the last seven games. Fresno State will need to find more offensive efficiency after shooting just 34.5% in the January loss. For Boise State, maintaining its hold atop the Mountain West standings is the priority. For Fresno State, the game represents a chance to build momentum and score a resume-boosting upset at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST Wednesday.
