BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — Two American Athletic Conference teams seeking momentum will meet Tuesday when the Memphis women’s basketball team visits UAB at Bartow Arena. The Tigers (8-14) and Blazers (9-14) enter with nearly identical records and recent struggles, having both lost their most recent contests this past Saturday. Memphis fell 82-65 to Rice, while UAB dropped a close 68-63 decision at Florida Atlantic. The matchup will feature a compelling duel at guard between Memphis’s Daejah Richmond and UAB’s Sofia Munoz. Richmond is coming off a strong all-around performance against Rice, scoring 15 points with nine rebounds and six assists. Over her last five games, the versatile guard has averaged 10.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Munoz has been a consistent offensive catalyst for the Blazers. She scored 10 points with five assists in the loss to FAU and is averaging 12.4 points and 3.9 assists over her last seven outings. Her season high of 19 points came in a Jan. 24 loss to East Carolina. Memphis has lost four of its last five, with its lone win in that stretch a 52-40 defensive victory over Texas-San Antonio on Jan. 23. UAB’s form has been mixed, with a notable 83-65 road win at Wichita State on Jan. 31 followed by two losses in its last three games. The Tigers will look to improve their road record, having gone 2-7 in true away games this season. UAB will aim to protect its home court, where it holds a 6-5 mark. This game is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series between the programs. They are scheduled to meet again in Memphis on Wednesday, March 4. Following this contest, Memphis will host Charlotte on Saturday. UAB hits the road for its next two, beginning at North Texas on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CST at Bartow Arena.
