YPSILANTI, Mich. (Interstat) — A surging Ball State women’s basketball team, riding an eight-game winning streak, will face a resilient Eastern Michigan squad coming off an overtime victory when the Mid-American Conference foes meet Tuesday night at the Convocation Center. The Cardinals (19-5) have established themselves as one of the league’s top contenders, boasting the conference’s best record. Their offense has been potent, scoring 83 points or more in five of their last six games, including a 101-point performance at Kent State on Feb. 1. Ball State narrowly escaped with an 87-86 home win over Troy last Saturday. Eastern Michigan (11-11) has shown flashes, most recently in a 76-73 overtime triumph against Arkansas State. The Eagles have alternated wins and losses over their last six contests, seeking consistency as they reach the midpoint of the conference schedule. The matchup features two of the MAC’s standout players. Ball State is led by Tessa Towers, who is averaging 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over her last three games. She posted a 29-point, 11-rebound double-double in the win at Kent State. Eastern Michigan counters with Peyton Hill, who is coming off a 28-point, 7-rebound effort in the overtime win. Hill has averaged 22.3 points over her last four outings. In the season’s first meeting on Dec. 20, Ball State held off Eastern Michigan 78-74 in Muncie. The Cardinals have dominated the recent series, winning the last five encounters. A Ball State victory would secure a 20-win season and solidify its hold atop the MAC standings. Eastern Michigan aims to reach .500 in conference play and secure a signature win against the league leader. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
