CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) ā A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Friday night when the Colonial Athletic Association-leading College of Charleston Cougars host the struggling UNC Wilmington Seahawks in a womenās basketball matchup at TD Arena. The Cougars (18-3, 9-1 CAA), riding a nine-game winning streak, have established themselves as the class of the conference. Their dominance was on full display just two weeks ago in a 71-37 rout of these same Seahawks in Wilmington. Charlestonās suffocating defense has held opponents to an average of 58.2 points during their streak. UNC Wilmington (5-16, 1-9) enters on a nine-game skid, its last victory coming on Jan. 2. The Seahawks have struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in any game during their losing streak and shooting just 27.8% from the field in the previous meeting with Charleston. A key matchup will be in the paint, where Charlestonās Grace Ezebilo poses a monumental challenge. The forward is coming off a historic performance in a 61-49 win at Campbell on Tuesday, grabbing 24 rebounds to go with 8 points. Her presence anchors the leagueās top defensive unit. UNC Wilmington will rely on the scoring of guard Kylah Silver, who is coming off a career-high 27 points in a 79-68 loss at William & Mary on Sunday. Silverās ability to create offense will be critical for a Seahawks team that averages a conference-low 57.2 points per game. The Cougars, who have not lost since Dec. 19, can further solidify their hold on first place with a victory. For the Seahawks, the task is to find a spark against a team that has handily defeated them already this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Friday at TD Arena.
