Preview: Penn Quakers at Princeton Tigers PRINCETON, N.J. (Interstat) — A pivotal Ivy League women’s basketball matchup is set for Friday night as the Princeton Tigers host the Penn Quakers at Jadwin Gymnasium. Princeton (18-2 overall) enters as one of the conference’s hottest teams, having won 10 of its last 11 games. Its only loss in that stretch was a 73-67 home defeat to Columbia on Jan. 30. The Tigers boast one of the league’s most potent offenses, led by junior guard Olivia Hutcherson. She is coming off a 20-point, 7-rebound performance in a win over Cornell last Saturday and has averaged 16.0 points over her last four contests. Penn (13-7) looks to improve its conference standing and avenge a 74-68 home loss to these same Tigers on Jan. 3. The Quakers have been inconsistent in league play, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. They are led by forward Tina Njike, who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in last Saturday’s victory over Columbia. Her production is often a bellwether for Penn; the team is 3-0 this season when she secures a double-double. The Tigers’ defense, which allows just 58.9 points per game, will focus on containing Njike and Penn guard Mataya Gayle, who dished out 7 assists against Columbia. Princeton counters with a balanced attack where Hutcherson and guard Skye Belker, who also scored 20 points against Cornell, can erupt on any given night. This contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the historic rivals. The rematch is scheduled for March 3 at Penn’s Palestra. With the Ivy League tournament seeding at stake, Friday’s game carries significant weight. A win would solidify Princeton’s position atop the conference, while a Penn victory would tighten the standings and provide a crucial road result. Following this game, Princeton will travel to face Columbia next Friday. Penn will have a week off before visiting Cornell on Feb. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
