STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Stony Brook women’s basketball team looks to continue its climb in the standings Friday when it hosts a struggling Northeastern squad at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. The Seawolves (12-10) have won three of their last four games, including a 61-51 victory over Monmouth on Sunday. They will face a Huskies team (6-13) mired in a three-game losing streak, most recently a 65-56 home loss to Drexel. Stony Brook’s recent success has been fueled by a balanced attack and stout defense, holding opponents to an average of 49.3 points during its current 3-1 stretch. Guard Janay Brantley is a key catalyst, coming off a 16-point performance against Monmouth. She has averaged 11.3 points over her last four contests. For Northeastern, forward Justice Tramble has been a consistent bright spot. She notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Drexel, her second double-digit rebounding game in the last three weeks. Tramble is averaging 10.9 points and 5.4 rebounds over her last seven games. The Huskies have struggled to find consistent offense, failing to reach 60 points in five of their last six outings. Support for Tramble will need to come from players like Camryn Collins, who led the team with 14 points against Drexel. Stony Brook won the first meeting this season, 57-53, on Jan. 9. In that game, the Seawolves’ defense forced 18 turnovers. Northeastern will seek to avenge that loss and snap its skid, while Stony Brook aims to solidify its position above .500. The teams are scheduled for a quick rematch in Boston on Sunday, Feb. 15. Friday’s tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.
