Preview: Hofstra Pride at Stony Brook Seawolves STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Stony Brook Seawolves look to return to the win column and complete a season sweep when they host the struggling Hofstra Pride in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Friday at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. The Seawolves (10-10) have dropped two of their last three but are 5-2 in their last seven contests. They defeated Hofstra decisively just two weeks ago, 61-44, on Jan. 16 behind 15 points from guard Diaka Berete. Berete enters Friday’s contest as Stony Brook’s leading scorer in three of its last five games, including a 24-point performance in a win over William & Mary on Jan. 4. Hofstra (3-16) seeks to end a seven-game losing streak, its most recent a 55-37 home loss to William & Mary on Monday. The Pride have been held under 50 points in four of their last six games. A bright spot has been the consistent play of forward Sandra Magolico, who has recorded three double-doubles in her last eight games and is averaging 10.1 rebounds per contest in that span. Stony Brook’s defense, which limited Hofstra to 30.2% shooting in the first meeting, will again focus on containing Magolico in the paint. The Pride will need improved perimeter scoring to challenge a Seawolves team that is 6-3 at home this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game is part of a crucial conference stretch for both teams as they approach the final month of the regular season.
