CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels, riding a nine-game winning streak and sitting atop the ASUN Conference, visit the Queens (N.C.) Royals on Friday night in a women’s basketball rematch of a lopsided affair from earlier this month. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST at the Levine Center. Eastern Kentucky (18-4, 9-0 ASUN) has been dominant, winning its conference games by an average of 28.2 points. That includes a 103-49 demolition of Queens in Richmond, Kentucky, on Jan. 3. The Lady Colonels are coming off a 68-55 road win at West Georgia on Thursday, led by 17 points from guard Liz Freihofer. Freihofer has been a consistent force, scoring in double figures in eight straight games. In the first meeting with Queens, she had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in just 26 minutes. Queens (8-12, 3-6) is looking to build momentum from a historic 100-48 rout of Bellarmine on Thursday. Guard Alyssa Lewis erupted for a career-high 33 points in that victory, showcasing the offensive potential the Royals will need against the conference’s top team. The Royals have struggled with consistency, however, and their last meeting with Eastern Kentucky was their most decisive loss of the season. Queens will need another explosive performance from Lewis and improved defensive intensity to challenge the surging Lady Colonels. According to National Statistical’s ELO system, Eastern Kentucky is projected with a 91.7% probability to win. Following this contest, Eastern Kentucky visits Lipscomb on Feb. 4, while Queens hosts Central Arkansas on the same date.
