Preview: UNC Wilmington at Campbell Women’s Basketball BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Interstat) — The Campbell women’s basketball team looks to continue its winning ways at home when it hosts struggling UNC Wilmington in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night. The Fightin’ Camels (12-8) return to Gore Arena following a 58-43 road victory at Hampton on Friday. They have won five of their last seven games, with their defense holding opponents under 52 points in four of those wins. Campbell will rely on guard Gianni Boone, who scored 21 points in the win over Hampton. Over her last seven games, Boone is averaging 13.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists, including a 15-point, 7-rebound, 4-assist, 3-block performance in a win at Drexel on Jan. 4. The visiting Seahawks (5-13) are mired in a difficult stretch, having lost six of their last seven games. They are coming off a 71-37 home loss to College of Charleston on Friday, a game in which they shot just 23.2% from the field. UNC Wilmington’s primary offensive threat is guard Rori Cox. Despite the team’s struggles, Cox has been a consistent scorer, averaging 15.1 points over her last eight contests. She posted 21 points and seven rebounds against Drexel on Jan. 18 and recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds at Towson on Jan. 11. Campbell’s defense, which allows an average of 57.8 points per game, will aim to contain Cox and force other Seahawks to beat them. UNC Wilmington averages just 57.2 points per game and has been held under 70 points in 16 of its 18 games this season. The Fightin’ Camels have been strong at home this season, boasting an 8-2 record in Buies Creek. This game is the first of a home-and-home series between the programs, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 15 in Wilmington. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Tuesday.
