NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles will look to snap a seven-game skid when they visit the Tennessee State Tigers in an Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at the Howard Gentry Complex. The Golden Eagles (10-8, 1-4 OVC) started the season 9-1 but have since dropped eight of their last nine, including a 62-67 loss at SIU Edwardsville on Saturday. Despite the losing streak, guard Reagan Hurst has been a consistent bright spot. She is coming off a 17-point, three-rebound, three-assist performance in 39 minutes against the Cougars and has scored in double figures in eight consecutive games. In the first meeting with Tennessee State this season, a 69-63 Tech win on Dec. 30, Hurst contributed 14 points and two assists. Tennessee State (3-16, 1-5) has struggled throughout the season and enters on a five-game losing streak, most recently a 58-91 defeat at Lindenwood. The Tigers’ lone conference victory was a 70-62 win over Morehead State on Jan. 15. Guard Somah Kamara, who scored 13 points in the loss to Lindenwood, will be a key player for the Tigers. She was held to four points in the December loss to the Golden Eagles. The Tigers’ defense, allowing an average of 71.2 points per game, will be tested by a Tech offense that averages 67.2 points. Tennessee State averages just 57.6 points per contest, the lowest in the OVC. Tuesday’s game is a crucial opportunity for both teams to gain momentum in conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
