Preview: Struggling Houston Faces Baylor in Waco WACO, Texas (Interstat) — The Baylor Lady Bears, riding a seven-game winning streak, will host the reeling Houston Cougars in a Big 12 women’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at the Ferrell Center. Baylor (18-3, 7-1 Big 12) has established itself as a conference powerhouse, with its only league loss coming by a single point to Texas Tech last month. The Lady Bears are coming off a dominant 73-48 victory over UCF on Wednesday, where their defense held the Knights to 29% shooting. Sophomore guard Taliah Scott has been the catalyst for Baylor’s surge, averaging 20.1 points per game during the win streak. She scored 22 points against UCF and poured in 25 in a road win at BYU last Saturday. Her scoring prowess, complemented by a balanced lineup featuring Darianna Littlepage-Buggs and playmaker Jana Van Gytenbeek, makes Baylor a formidable opponent on both ends of the floor. Houston (6-13, 0-8) arrives in Waco mired in an eight-game losing streak, all in conference play. The Cougars’ last outing was a narrow 69-65 loss at Kansas State on Jan. 21, a game in which they led at halftime. Guard Kyndall Hunter was a bright spot in that defeat, scoring 20 points in 23 minutes off the bench. Hunter has shown flashes of high-level scoring, including a 19-point performance against BYU on Jan. 10, but consistency has been an issue for the young Houston squad. The Cougars rank near the bottom of the Big 12 in both scoring offense and defense, a troubling combination against a Baylor team that leads the conference in scoring margin. Houston will need Hunter and leading scorer TK Pitts to have efficient nights while finding a way to slow Scott and Baylor’s methodical offense. This game marks the first meeting between the programs as Big 12 conference foes. Baylor is 10-0 at home this season, while Houston is 0-6 in true road games. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. Baylor will look to maintain its position near the top of the conference standings, while Houston seeks a program-defining upset to snap its prolonged skid.
