TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Charlotte 49ers visit the South Florida Bulls in an American Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at the Sun Dome. Charlotte (9-11) enters on a tough note, coming off a heartbreaking 83-82 loss at Temple on Saturday. The 49ers have lost four of their last five games. South Florida (12-9) also suffered a narrow defeat its last time out, falling 64-63 at Florida Atlantic, snapping a five-game winning streak. The game features two of the conference’s top guards in Charlotte’s Tanajah Hayes and South Florida’s Stefanie Ingram. Hayes is coming off a spectacular performance against Temple, recording 24 points and 10 assists. Over her last seven games, she is averaging 15.4 points and 5.6 assists per contest. Ingram, a key distributor for the Bulls, is averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 assists per game this season. She dished out 13 assists in a win at Memphis on Jan. 10. For Charlotte to snap its skid, Hayes will need support beyond her 24-point effort against Temple. Zoe Best added 21 points in that game and Asianae Nicholson posted a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. The 49ers’ defense, which allowed 84 points in a loss at Rice earlier this month, will be tested by a balanced South Florida attack. The Bulls have found success lately behind Ingram’s playmaking and the interior presence of Carla Brito, who grabbed 11 rebounds against Florida Atlantic. South Florida has been strong at home in conference play, with wins in three of its last four at the Sun Dome. Historically, South Florida holds a distinct advantage, having won 12 of the 13 all-time meetings between the programs. The Bulls won both matchups last season. Tuesday’s game is a critical conference contest for both teams as they navigate the second half of the AAC schedule. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
