Preview: Tarleton State at Abilene Christian Women’s Basketball ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — A Western Athletic Conference rematch awaits Monday as the Abilene Christian Wildcats host the Tarleton State Texans at Moody Coliseum. The Wildcats (14-5, 4-1 WAC) look to complete a regular-season sweep after edging the Texans 64-59 on Jan. 8. Abilene Christian has won three straight, including an 82-54 rout of Southern Utah on Jan. 17, and sits near the top of the conference standings. Tarleton State (10-8, 3-2) arrives with momentum from back-to-back wins, most recently a 51-37 defensive victory over Texas-Arlington on Wednesday. The Texans have shown resilience but seek to avenge their earlier loss to their in-state rival. A key matchup will feature the teams’ standout guards. Abilene Christian is led by Payton Hull, who scored 13 points with four assists in the first meeting and is averaging 17.4 points over her last five games. For Tarleton State, Gia Adams looks to bounce back from a quiet one-point performance in the January loss to ACU. Adams has been pivotal in recent wins, posting 12 points and seven assists against UTA and a 20-point outing against Southern Utah on Jan. 15. The Wildcats have been strong at home this season, while the Texans have struggled on the road, with all three of their conference losses coming away from Stephenville. Abilene Christian’s balanced attack, which saw Emma Troxell and Erin Woodson join Hull in double figures in the last matchup, will test a Tarleton defense that has held two of its last three opponents under 60 points. Monday’s contest is the first of two meetings in a five-week span. The Wildcats will visit Tarleton State on Feb. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST at Moody Coliseum.
