Preview: Elon Phoenix at Hampton Pirates HAMPTON, Va. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the second half of the conference schedule will meet Monday afternoon when the Elon Phoenix visit the Hampton Pirates in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball matchup. Both teams enter with identical 8-10 overall records. The game is a quick rematch of a Jan. 4 contest in Elon, North Carolina, where the Phoenix held off Hampton 84-75. Elon guard Ashanti Fox scored 11 points and dished four assists in that victory. Fox has been a key offensive catalyst for Elon since. She is coming off a 16-point performance in a 67-60 home win over North Carolina A&T on Friday. Over her last five games, the guard is averaging 13.4 points per contest. Hampton looks to snap a three-game skid, having lost its last two by an average of 16 points. The Pirates struggled offensively in a 58-43 home loss to Campbell on Friday. Forward Aisha Dabo led Hampton with 12 points in that defeat, but the team shot just 27.9% from the field. The Pirates will need more production from Dabo and improved efficiency overall to avenge the earlier loss to Elon. In the Jan. 4 meeting, Hampton allowed the Phoenix to shoot 48.4% from the floor. Elon has shown a pattern of following a loss with a win in recent weeks, while Hampton has lost four of its last five. The winner of Monday’s game will gain a valuable conference victory and move above .500 in CAA play. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST at the Hampton Convocation Center. Following this game, Elon will host College of Charleston on Friday, while Hampton travels to face UNC Wilmington.
