PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — A Coastal Athletic Association rematch with momentum on the line is set for Friday when the Drexel Dragons host the Stony Brook Seawolves in a women’s basketball clash at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons (9-7) seek to avenge a 57-53 loss at Stony Brook just two weeks ago on Jan. 9 and defend their home court. The Seawolves (10-9) arrive having won five of their last six, including that earlier meeting, and are coming off a 55-43 victory over Towson on Sunday. Stony Brook’s surge has been fueled by the all-around play of guard Sandra Frau-Garcia. Over her last seven games, she has averaged 9.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.0 assists, including a near triple-double of 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in the win over Towson. Her facilitation will be key against Drexel’s defense. The Dragons counter with high-scoring guard Amaris Baker, who is coming off a season-high 24-point performance in a 76-67 road win at UNC Wilmington on Sunday. Baker, who was held to 10 points in the first meeting with Stony Brook, has averaged 19.4 points over her last five contests and represents Drexel’s primary offensive threat. Both teams enter with identical 4-1 records in CAA play. The matchup features a contrast in styles: Stony Brook has relied on a balanced attack and stout defense during its winning streak, while Drexel has leaned on Baker’s explosive scoring. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Jan. 23. For Drexel, it begins a critical two-game homestand before a road swing, while Stony Brook continues a stretch of four out of five games on the road. The season series is poised at 1-0 in favor of the Seawolves, setting the stage for a pivotal conference battle in Philadelphia.
