MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two teams hovering near .500 will look to gain momentum when the Liberty Lady Flames visit the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Friday night at Murphy Athletics Center. Liberty (9-8) arrives after a narrow 55-53 road win at Western Kentucky on Thursday, while Middle Tennessee (10-9) looks to rebound from a 61-48 home loss to Delaware that same night. The matchup features two of the conference’s most consistent scorers. The Lady Flames are led by guard Emmy Stout, who is averaging 17.1 points over her last six games. She scored 19 points in 29 minutes in Thursday’s victory. Avery Mills, who added 14 points against Western Kentucky, provides secondary scoring. The Blue Raiders counter with guard Macie Phifer, a versatile contributor who posted a 15-point, 10-rebound, 4-assist double-double in a win over New Mexico State on Jan. 10. In Thursday’s loss, Alayna Contreras led Middle Tennessee with 14 points. Both teams have shown recent inconsistency. Liberty’s win Thursday snapped a three-game skid. Middle Tennessee had won four straight before losses in two of its last three, struggling offensively in defeats to Delaware and Louisiana Tech. According to National Statistical’s ELO system, Middle Tennessee is projected with a 63.6% probability to win on its home floor. The teams will meet again in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Feb. 26. For Liberty, the game begins a tough stretch with five of its next seven on the road. Middle Tennessee continues a three-game homestand before heading to Missouri State on Feb. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern.
