(Interstat) — A surging College of Charleston team visits a struggling UNC Wilmington squad in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball matchup Friday at Trask Coliseum. The Cougars (14-3, 6-0 CAA) enter on a seven-game winning streak and sit atop the conference standings. They are coming off an 87-64 rout of Elon on Sunday, their sixth consecutive victory by double digits. UNC Wilmington (5-12, 1-5) looks to halt a four-game skid, all in conference play. The Seahawks fell 76-67 to Drexel in their last outing. The game features a contrast in offensive firepower. Charleston averages 75.2 points per game during its streak, fueled by guard Taryn Barbot. The junior is averaging 20.8 points over her last six games, including a 29-point performance against Northeastern on Jan. 4. UNC Wilmington counters with forward Rori Cox, who has been a bright spot. She is coming off a 21-point, 7-rebound effort against Drexel and has averaged 15.4 points over her last five contests. Charleston’s dominance has been built on both ends of the floor. In the win over Elon, Tyja Beans added 18 points and Grace Ezebilo controlled the paint with 13 rebounds. The Seahawks have struggled to find consistent scoring outside of Cox. They have been held under 70 points in 10 of their 12 losses this season. These teams will meet again in Charleston on Feb. 6. Friday’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
