Preview: Providence Friars at Seton Hall Pirates NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) ā The Seton Hall Pirates look to solidify their standing near the top of the Big East when they host the Providence Friars in a womenās basketball conference matchup Tuesday night at Prudential Center. The Pirates (13-5 overall) enter on a three-game winning streak, including an 86-77 road victory at DePaul on Saturday. Savannah Catalon led the way in that win, scoring 24 points. The guard has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.3 points over her last three contests. Seton Hall defeated Providence (10-10) just 12 days ago, 58-48, on the Friarsā home floor. In that game, the Piratesā defense held Providence to 30.2% shooting from the field. Providence arrives in Newark coming off a dramatic 80-77 home win over Creighton, snapping a two-game skid. Sophomore guard Orlagh Gormley erupted for a season-high 21 points in that victory, signaling a potential offensive resurgence after being held to eight points in the earlier loss to Seton Hall. The Friarsā season has been marked by inconsistency, particularly against ranked and upper-tier conference opponents. Their win over Creighton, however, demonstrated their capability to compete in tight games. For Seton Hall, the formula remains defensive pressure and balanced scoring behind Catalon. Beyond their star guard, Jordana Codio (22 points vs. DePaul) and Zahara Bishop (21 points vs. DePaul) have provided significant offensive support. The key matchup will feature Catalon and Gormley, whose performances often dictate their teamsā fortunes. Providence will need a similar high-output performance from Gormley and another strong showing from forward Sabou Gueye, who added 22 points against Creighton, to challenge a Seton Hall team with a clear edge in record and recent head-to-head success. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on the Big East Digital Network. Following this contest, Seton Hall will prepare for a major test Sunday when they host Connecticut. Providence continues its road swing at Villanova on Jan. 27.
