Preview: Memphis Tigers at Wichita State Shockers WICHITA, Kan. (Interstat) — Two American Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams seeking to halt slides will meet Tuesday when the Memphis Tigers visit the Wichita State Shockers at Charles Koch Arena. Memphis (7-11, 1-4 AAC) enters having lost four of its last five, including a 64-75 defeat at North Texas on Jan. 13. The Tigers’ offense has shown flashes, scoring 81 and 74 points in recent losses to South Florida and a win over Florida Atlantic, respectively, but consistency has been an issue. The Tigers will lean on guard Tamya Smith, who is coming off a 21-point performance against North Texas and has averaged 14.2 points over her last six games. Daejah Richmond and Jordan Hunter have provided secondary scoring. Wichita State (3-16, 0-6) is mired in a deeper slump, having lost nine consecutive games. The Shockers have struggled offensively during the skid, failing to reach 65 points in any of those contests and falling 53-75 at South Florida last Saturday. Defense has also been a concern, with opponents averaging 75.2 points during the losing streak. Freshman guard Karys Washington has been a bright spot, averaging 6.3 points off the bench in conference play. Jaida McDonald and Azjah Reeves will also be counted on for production. This matchup represents a critical opportunity for both squads. Memphis aims to climb back to .500 in league play and build momentum before a two-game homestand. For the Shockers, it is a chance to secure their first AAC victory of the season and gain confidence before a road trip to East Carolina. The Tigers won both meetings last season by an average of 22.5 points. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Tuesday. Memphis hosts UTSA on Saturday, while Wichita State travels to face East Carolina next Tuesday.
