SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — A surging East Carolina women’s basketball team looks to extend its win streak when it visits a Texas-San Antonio squad finding its footing in American Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night. The Pirates (13-6, 4-2 AAC) have won three straight, including an 81-65 victory over Temple on Saturday. They are powered by guard Kennedy Fauntleroy, who is playing at an elite level. Over her last three games, the dynamic junior has averaged 23 points and 7.7 assists. She poured in 27 points and dished eight assists in the win over the Owls. East Carolina’s recent success contrasts with a stumble earlier this month, an 87-63 loss at North Texas. Since that game, the Pirates’ offense has clicked, averaging over 81 points per game during their current streak. The Roadrunners (9-7, 3-2), meanwhile, are coming off a dominant 79-42 road win at Florida Atlantic on Friday. Guard Ereauna Hardaway led the way with 20 points in that contest, showcasing the scoring punch she provides. Hardaway has been inconsistent in conference play, however, following a 20-point outing with a 4-point game against South Florida last week. UTSA has shown resilience at the Convocation Center, winning its last two home conference games against Charlotte and Tulane by a combined five points. The matchup pits East Carolina’s high-octane offense against a UTSA defense that has held three of its five AAC opponents under 65 points. Containing Fauntleroy will be the primary task for the Roadrunners, while the Pirates must account for Hardaway’s ability to score in bursts. Tuesday’s game is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this season. East Carolina visits UAB next on Jan. 24, while UTSA travels to face Memphis on Jan. 24.
