ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Ivy League women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Monday when the Cornell Big Red hosts the Yale Bulldogs at Newman Arena. The matchup features teams with contrasting recent paths. Cornell (7-9 overall) opened its conference slate with two road wins at Columbia and Dartmouth before a 106-27 rout of non-Division I SUNY Delhi on Jan. 13. However, the Big Red stumbled in its most recent outing, falling 64-48 at home to Brown on Saturday. Yale (4-12) enters on a four-game skid, all against conference opponents. The Bulldogs fell 85-58 at Columbia on Saturday after a 76-50 home loss to Princeton on Jan. 10. Their last victory was a 61-48 home win over Bryant on Dec. 3. A key player to watch for Yale is Mary Meng. The forward is coming off a strong performance against Princeton, logging 26 minutes with 9 points and 10 rebounds. She leads the Bulldogs’ interior effort. For Cornell, guard Ally Pape provides a scoring spark. She erupted for 24 points and 10 rebounds in just 26 minutes in the win over SUNY Delhi. Her production will be crucial as the Big Red looks to bounce back from its offensive struggles against Brown. Historically, Cornell holds a narrow edge in the series, but both teams are focused on securing an early conference victory to stabilize their seasons. The game is part of a full Ivy League schedule Monday. Following this contest, Yale will host Penn on Jan. 24. Cornell will remain at home to face Harvard on Jan. 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
