Preview: Northern Arizona at Montana Women’s Basketball MISSOULA, Mont. (Interstat) — Two Big Sky Conference teams seeking momentum will meet Monday when the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks visit the Montana Lady Griz at Dahlberg Arena. Northern Arizona (7-12, 3-3 Big Sky) enters with some confidence after an 80-68 home win over Portland State on Saturday. The Lumberjacks have been inconsistent but have already defeated Montana once this season, an 81-72 victory in Flagstaff on Jan. 1. Montana (3-13, 0-5) is mired in a six-game losing streak, most recently a lopsided 82-44 road loss to rival Montana State. The Lady Griz are still searching for their first conference win under first-year coach Jordan Sullivan. A key matchup will feature Northern Arizona’s Madison Watts against Montana’s Avery Waddington. Watts is coming off a strong performance against Portland State, posting 17 points and nine rebounds in 22 minutes. In the Jan. 1 win over Montana, she contributed 10 points and three assists. Waddington, a guard for the Lady Griz, scored 16 points in that prior meeting. She is averaging 12.3 points in conference play and will be central to Montana’s offensive efforts. Despite Montana’s record, its home court at Dahlberg Arena has historically been a tough venue for visitors. Northern Arizona’s road record this season is 3-7. The Lumberjacks’ offense, which saw four players score in double figures against Portland State, will test a Montana defense allowing a conference-worst 75.1 points per game in Big Sky play. Following this game, Northern Arizona continues its road trip at Northern Colorado on Jan. 24. Montana hits the road for games at Weber State and Idaho State next week. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
