PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Penn defeated Dartmouth 67-59 in an Ivy League women’s basketball game Monday at The Palestra. The Quakers never trailed after the first quarter, maintaining a steady lead despite several challenges from the Big Green. Tina Njike led Penn with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Alexandra Eldredge scored 16 points for Dartmouth. Penn improved to 11-6 overall, while Dartmouth fell to 9-8.

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Two Ivy League women’s basketball teams looking to rebound from weekend losses will meet Monday when Penn hosts Dartmouth at The Palestra. The Quakers (10-6) and the Big Green (9-7) each seek their first conference win of the season after both were defeated in their Ivy League openers on Saturday. Penn fell 53-42 to Harvard, while Dartmouth was routed 69-41 by Princeton. Monday’s matchup features a contrast in momentum. Penn had won five straight before the loss to Harvard, including a notable 67-62 victory over Washington State on Dec. 19. Dartmouth has dropped three of its last four, with the lone win a 99-35 blowout of St. Joseph’s on Dec. 30. A key player to watch for Dartmouth is Cate MacDonald. The guard/forward has been a consistent performer, averaging 12 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists over her last four games. She posted 17 points and seven rebounds in a loss to Harvard on Jan. 3. Penn will counter with guard Mataya Gayle, who has carried a heavy offensive load. She played all 49 minutes in a double-overtime loss at Brown on Jan. 10, scoring 18 points. In her last four contests, she has averaged 13 points and five assists. The Palestra has been a stronghold for Penn this season, where the Quakers are 6-1. Dartmouth is 5-4 in road games. Historically, Penn has dominated the series, winning 12 of the last 13 meetings. The Quakers swept last season’s matchups, winning 69-55 in Philadelphia and 64-49 in Hanover. Following this contest, Penn will travel to face Yale on Saturday. Dartmouth will visit Columbia on Jan. 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
