(Interstat) — A pair of in-state SWAC rivals seeking momentum will meet Monday when the Alabama A&M Bulldogs visit the Alabama State Lady Hornets in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball clash. The Bulldogs (7-9 overall) enter with a surge of confidence, having won three straight conference games, including a dominant 76-34 victory over Alcorn State last Saturday. Alabama State (5-10) looks to halt a two-game skid after falling 62-54 to Jackson State in its last outing. Alabama A&M’s recent success has been fueled by forward Maori Davenport. The standout player is averaging 13.3 points per game over her last four contests. She posted 18 points and two blocks in just 29 minutes in the win over Alcorn State. Support comes from Kaila Walker, who scored a team-high 19 points in that game. The Lady Hornets counter with guard Ny’Keria Flowers, who leads the team in minutes and is coming off a 13-point performance against Jackson State. Alabama State showed resilience earlier in the month with road wins at Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State. While both teams have faced challenging non-conference schedules, the Bulldogs have found a rhythm in SWAC play. Alabama State’s defense, which held Alcorn State to 49 points in a loss last week, will be tested by a balanced Alabama A&M attack. This marks the first meeting of the season between the programs. The game is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at the home court of the Alabama State Lady Hornets. Following this contest, Alabama A&M continues a road swing at Prairie View on Thursday. Alabama State will also hit the road, facing Texas Southern on Thursday.
