LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — A top-tier Big Ten women’s basketball showdown is set for Sunday when UCLA visits Nebraska at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Both teams enter with championship aspirations and nearly identical records. The visiting Bruins (14-1, 3-0 Big Ten) have won seven straight since their only loss to Texas in November. The homestanding Cornhuskers (14-2, 2-1) have won two consecutive conference games but are looking to prove themselves against the league’s new powerhouse. The matchup features a compelling duel between two of the nation’s elite players. UCLA is powered by center Lauren Betts, who has been dominant. In her last five games, Betts is averaging 19.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting over 70% from the field. She posted an 18-point, 16-rebound, 4-assist effort in a key road win at Ohio State on Dec. 28. Nebraska counters with dynamic guard Britt Prince, who is coming off a 20-point, 7-assist performance in a 78-73 win over Indiana on Thursday. Prince averages 18.1 points and 5.2 assists per game, scoring 27 in a narrow road loss to Iowa on Jan. 1. UCLA’s offense has been explosive, scoring 80 or more points in nine games, including a 115-point outing against Cal Poly. Their defense, anchored by Betts, allows just 55.9 points per game. Nebraska averages 79.6 points offensively but will be tested by UCLA’s defensive length. The Bruins won their most recent game 80-46 over Southern California on Jan. 3, with Betts contributing 18 points, 4 assists and 3 blocks. The Huskers edged Indiana 78-73 behind Prince’s 20 points. This marks a significant early conference test for both squads. UCLA aims to solidify its status as the Big Ten favorite, while Nebraska seeks a program-defining victory in front of a sold-out home crowd. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. CST tip-off and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
