MOBILE, Ala. (Interstat) — A surging Arkansas State women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant start when it visits South Alabama on Thursday night in a Sun Belt Conference rematch. The Red Wolves (13-3, 3-0 Sun Belt) enter Mitchell Center riding a seven-game winning streak, which includes a 74-61 home victory over these same Jaguars on Dec. 20. Arkansas State is coming off an 89-71 road win at Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, where they shot 52% from the field. South Alabama (8-6, 1-2) aims to halt that momentum and split the season series on its home floor. The Jaguars responded from a loss at Louisiana-Monroe with a decisive 81-56 road win at Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, showcasing their potential. A key matchup will feature Arkansas State’s Bella Weary against South Alabama’s Cordasia Harris. Weary, coming off a 15-point, six-rebound performance against ULM, scored 12 points in the first meeting with USA. Harris poses a major threat inside; she recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds in the loss at Arkansas State and followed with another 22-point, 13-rebound outing in the win over Louisiana-Lafayette. Arkansas State’s offense has been potent during its streak, averaging 82.7 points per game over its last three contests. South Alabama’s defense, which allowed 84 points in a loss at Southern Miss last month, will be tested. The Red Wolves have shown balance, with Marlie Dickerson and Crislyn Rose joining Weary as consistent contributors. South Alabama counters with Chrysta Narcisse, who had 18 points and five rebounds in the team’s latest victory. Tipoff is set for Thursday night at Mitchell Center. Arkansas State visits Troy on Saturday, while South Alabama hosts Louisiana-Monroe.
