DETROIT (Interstat) — Two Horizon League women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Detroit Titans host the Milwaukee Panthers at Calihan Hall. Both teams enter the Jan. 8 contest looking to build on modest winning records in conference play. Milwaukee (5-11, 2-3 Horizon) is coming off a 66-58 home victory over Cleveland State on Sunday, which snapped a two-game skid. Detroit (4-10, 2-3) has dropped three straight, most recently a 75-57 loss at Northern Kentucky on Sunday. The matchup features a key battle between standout guards. Milwaukee’s Jorey Buwalda is averaging 15.8 points per game in her last five contests. She was instrumental in the win over Cleveland State, scoring 20 points with seven rebounds and four assists in 33 minutes. For Detroit, Nisea Burrell has been a consistent presence, leading the team with 13 points in the loss to Northern Kentucky. Beyond the backcourt, Milwaukee will rely on forwards Grace Lomen and Tierney Madigan, who combined for 24 points and 14 rebounds against Cleveland State. Detroit will need production from Jasmine Edwards, who pulled down seven rebounds last game, and Maya Anderson, who added eight points off the bench. The Panthers have shown a recent ability to win close games, while the Titans will lean on their home court, where they earned a league win over Cleveland State in early December. With both teams clustered in the middle of the conference standings, this game represents a critical opportunity to gain ground. The Titans visit Milwaukee for a rematch on Jan. 22. Detroit hosts Green Bay on Saturday, while Milwaukee travels to face Oakland.
