Preview: Texas State Bobcats at Troy Trojans TROY, Ala. (Interstat) — A surging Troy team looks to continue its strong start to Sun Belt Conference play when it hosts a struggling Texas State squad on Wednesday night at Trojan Arena. The Trojans (11-3) enter as one of the conference’s hottest teams, having won eight of their last nine games. Their lone loss in that stretch was a narrow 98-95 road defeat at Southern Mississippi on Saturday. Troy’s offense has been potent, averaging 84.6 points per game. Troy is led by forward Fortuna Ngnawo, who is coming off a dominant 22-point, 17-rebound performance in the loss to Southern Miss. Over her last five games, Ngnawo has averaged 14.2 points and 12.6 rebounds, providing a consistent interior presence. Guard Rachel Leggett, who had 15 points and six assists against Southern Miss, offers additional scoring punch. The visiting Texas State Bobcats (6-7) aim to rebound from a 52-87 road loss at James Madison last Saturday. The Bobcats have shown flashes, including a 95-33 rout of Huston-Tillotson on Dec. 29, but have struggled for consistency against tougher competition. Texas State will rely on guard Amyria Walker, who scored 12 points in just 10 minutes off the bench against James Madison. Walker has provided efficient scoring in limited minutes recently, including a 21-point outing against Huston-Tillotson. The matchup pits Troy’s high-powered offense against a Texas State team that has been held under 70 points in six of its seven losses. Containing Ngnawo in the paint will be a primary challenge for the Bobcats. This game is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series between the teams, who will meet again in San Marcos, Texas, on Jan. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
