ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The Saint Louis Billikens look to return to the .500 mark in Atlantic 10 women’s basketball play Wednesday night when they host the struggling VCU Rams at Chaifetz Arena. Saint Louis (8-8) enters the conference matchup at 1-1 after a 71-55 home loss to Davidson on Saturday. The Billikens had previously opened A-10 play with a 72-62 road win at Duquesne. VCU (4-11) seeks its first league victory after falling 68-58 to George Mason on Sunday. The Billikens have been led by the consistent play of guard Jahda Denis, who is averaging 17.0 points over her last six games. She scored 18 points with five rebounds in the loss to Davidson. Saint Louis has shown offensive potency, including a 132-point outburst against UHSP on Dec. 28, but has struggled against high-major competition, with losses to Missouri and Ohio highlighting its record. VCU’s season has been defined by offensive challenges, failing to reach 70 points in 13 of 15 games. The Rams have lost five straight, with their last win coming against American on Dec. 16. Guard Makennah White has provided a recent spark, scoring in double figures in three of the last five games, including a team-high 14 points in 20 minutes off the bench against George Mason. Defensively, the Rams will need to contain a Saint Louis offense that averages 74.1 points per game at home. VCU allows an average of 69.3 points per contest. The Billikens have defended their home court well, posting a 6-3 record at Chaifetz Arena this season. Historically, Saint Louis holds a 15-13 advantage in the series, though the teams split their meetings last season, each winning on their home floor. Following this game, Saint Louis travels to face Loyola Chicago on Sunday. VCU continues its road swing before hosting Duquesne on Jan. 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
