RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders, riding high as one of the Atlantic 10’s top teams, will host the Fordham Rams in a women’s basketball conference matchup Wednesday night at the Robins Center. Richmond (12-4) enters with momentum after an 80-60 road victory over Saint Bonaventure on Saturday. The Spiders have won seven of their last eight games, with their only loss in that stretch a 73-61 defeat at Rhode Island. They are led by standout forward Maggie Doogan, who is averaging 22.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists over her last six contests. She scored 30 points in a win at Penn State and posted a 26-point, 11-rebound double-double against Bethune-Cookman. Fordham (8-6) looks to rebound from a difficult 78-49 home loss to Saint Joseph’s on Saturday. That defeat snapped a two-game winning streak for the Rams. Guard Ornella Niankan will be a key player for the visitors; she is coming off an 11-point, 8-rebound performance in a narrow 72-69 loss to La Salle on New Year’s Eve. In the loss to Saint Joseph’s, Ugne Sirtautaite led Fordham with 12 points. The Rams have struggled on the road this season, posting a 2-4 record away from home, including conference losses at George Mason and Rhode Island. Richmond boasts a strong 7-1 record at the Robins Center, with the lone home loss coming against Fairfield in early December. This game marks the beginning of a critical stretch for both teams in the A-10 schedule. Richmond will look to protect its home court and solidify its position near the top of the conference standings, while Fordham aims to steady itself and pull off a road upset against one of the league’s hottest teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday. Richmond’s next game is at home against Davidson on Saturday. Fordham will host Dayton on Saturday.
