CLINTON, S.C. (Interstat) — A surging High Point women’s basketball team looks to continue its dominant start when it visits struggling Presbyterian in a Big South Conference matchup Wednesday at Templeton Center. The Panthers (13-2) enter on a four-game winning streak, including a 72-58 road victory at South Carolina Upstate last Saturday. The Blue Hose (2-13) have lost five straight, most recently an 89-56 defeat at Longwood. The game features a stark contrast in trajectories. High Point’s strong non-conference schedule, which included a narrow loss to Davidson and a double-overtime win over Yale, has prepared it for league play. Presbyterian has faced offensive struggles, scoring 56 points or fewer in eight of its 13 losses. A key matchup will be High Point guard Aaliyah Collins against Presbyterian’s Krystal Haddock. Collins is averaging 20.0 points over her last five games, coming off a 19-point, 4-assist performance at Upstate. Haddock is coming off her best game of the season, scoring 18 points with eight rebounds in the loss to Longwood, but has been held to single digits in three of her last five outings. For High Point, balance complements Collins’ scoring. Anna Hager posted a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Macy Spencer added 20 points in the win over Upstate. Presbyterian will rely on Haddock and Morgan Boyd, who scored 16 points against Longwood, to generate offense against a Panthers defense allowing just 62.9 points per game. This begins a critical January stretch for both teams. High Point plays three of its next four on the road as it pursues a conference title. Presbyterian seeks to find footing in league play before a rematch at High Point on Jan. 31. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday in Clinton.
