Preview: Eastern Michigan Eagles at Ohio Bobcats ATHENS, Ohio (Interstat) — A pair of teams riding winning streaks will meet Wednesday night when the Eastern Michigan Eagles visit the Ohio Bobcats in a Mid-American Conference women’s basketball clash at the Convocation Center. The Bobcats (8-4) have won three straight, most recently a 73-56 home victory over Akron on Jan. 3. Ohio’s offense has averaged 84.7 points during the streak, fueled by strong guard play. Eastern Michigan (7-5) enters with momentum after an 86-76 home win over Bowling Green on Dec. 30, snapping a two-game skid. The Eagles have shown resilience in close games, with three of their five losses coming by single digits, including a narrow 74-78 defeat at Ball State. A key matchup will feature two of the MAC’s top scorers. Eastern Michigan’s Fernanda Ovalle is averaging 19.5 points over her last four games, including a 26-point performance against Bowling Green. The senior guard has logged heavy minutes, playing 36 or more in three of those contests. Ohio counters with Bailey Tabeling, who has been a consistent force. The guard is coming off a 16-point, 4-rebound effort against Akron and scored 20 points in a critical overtime road win at Central Michigan on Dec. 31. Her ability to contribute across multiple categories will be pivotal. Ohio holds a slight edge in the overall season record and has protected its home court with a 5-2 mark in Athens this season. Eastern Michigan is 3-3 in true road games. Both teams are looking to establish an early advantage in the MAC standings as conference play intensifies. The Bobcats’ recent offensive surge will be tested by an Eastern Michigan team that held its last opponent to 76 points. Containing Ovalle will be a primary focus for Ohio’s defense, while the Eagles must find an answer for Tabeling’s versatile scoring. Tip-off is set for Wednesday night. The Eagles host Kent State next on Jan. 10, while the Bobcats travel to face Buffalo on Jan. 10.
