Preview: Wyoming Faces Nevada in Mountain West Womenâs Basketball Clash RENO, Nev. (Interstat) â Two teams seeking momentum in Mountain West play will meet Wednesday when the Wyoming Cowgirls visit the Nevada Wolf Pack at Lawlor Events Center. Wyoming (4-9) enters on a three-game skid, most recently a 72-55 home loss to San Diego State on Saturday. Nevada (5-9) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 58-40 victory over Utah State that same day. The matchup features two of the conferenceâs top scorers in strong recent form. Wyoming will lean on guard Malene Pedersen, who has averaged 17.4 points over her last five games. She scored 17 points with six rebounds in the loss to San Diego State and had a 22-point performance at New Mexico on Dec. 31. Nevada counters with guard Izzy Sullivan, who led the Wolf Pack with 17 points in the win over Utah State. Her scoring provides a critical spark for a team that has struggled offensively at times this season. Both teams have faced similar challenges, with Wyomingâs non-conference schedule including road losses to power conference foe Minnesota and Santa Clara. Nevadaâs early season featured narrow defeats to Eastern Washington and Portland. Wyomingâs last victory was an 83-60 rout of San Jose State on Dec. 17, a game where Pedersen dished out five assists. Nevadaâs defense, which held Utah State to 40 points, will aim to disrupt that rhythm. The Cowgirlsâ Henna Sandvik, who paired with Pedersen for 17 points against San Diego State, provides a secondary scoring threat. Nevada will look for continued production from Skylar Durley, who added 12 points in the Utah State win. History in the series favors Nevada, which has won three of the last four meetings. Wednesdayâs contest opens a critical January stretch for both programs as they jockey for position in the Mountain West standings. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST. Wyoming travels to face UNLV on Saturday, while Nevada visits New Mexico.
