HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Interstat) — A surging Marshall squad hosts an Old Dominion team finding its footing in Conference USA women’s basketball when the Thundering Herd and Lady Monarchs meet Wednesday night at the Cam Henderson Center. Marshall (13-3) enters with momentum, having won six straight games, including gritty road victories at Coastal Carolina (87-85 in overtime) and Appalachian State (53-48) last week. The Thundering Herd’s attack is powered by guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey, who is coming off a stretch of dominant performances. She averaged 21.2 points over a five-game span in December, including a 31-point outing against Appalachian State and a 26-point game at Eastern Kentucky. Old Dominion (10-5) has won two consecutive games, edging Georgia Southern in double-overtime before a 73-68 win over Georgia State on Saturday. The Lady Monarchs have been led by the stellar play of guard Simaru Fields, who scored a season-high 29 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists in the win over Georgia State. Fields is averaging 15.2 points per game over her last five contests. The matchup features a contrast in recent consistency. Marshall’s only loss since Nov. 30 was a 10-point defeat at Morehead State. Old Dominion has shown a split personality in nonconference play, with decisive wins over teams like Indiana State (89-68) but lopsided losses to Power Five opponents Mississippi and Oregon. This game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs this month. They are scheduled to play again in Norfolk, Virginia, on Jan. 17. Following this contest, Marshall will host Coastal Carolina on Saturday, while Old Dominion travels to face Georgia Southern on the same day. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday in Huntington.
