Preview of Wednesday’s Women’s Basketball Game OXFORD, Ohio (Interstat) — Two of the Mid-American Conference’s hottest teams will meet Wednesday when the Massachusetts Minutewomen visit the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks at Millett Hall. Massachusetts (10-2) enters on a two-game winning streak following a 75-70 road victory at Kent State on Saturday. Miami (Ohio) (10-4) has won three straight, including a 63-55 home win over Toledo that same day. The matchup features a compelling duel between two of the conference’s top guards. Massachusetts is led by Yahmani McKayle, who is coming off a 28-point performance against Kent State. Over her last four games, McKayle is averaging 18 points and four assists. Miami counters with versatile guard Tamar Singer, who nearly posted a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in a win at Kent State on Dec. 31. Singer is averaging 13 points, five rebounds and six assists during the RedHawks’ three-game streak. Both teams have built their records with strong defense. Massachusetts has held opponents to 40 points or fewer twice this season, while Miami has limited three foes to 55 points or less during its current win streak. A key factor will be Massachusetts’ ability to win on the road, where they are 4-2, against a Miami squad that is 6-1 at home this season. The Minutewomen’s only losses came in narrow fashion at Youngstown State (72-69) and Army (64-61). This game begins a critical January stretch for both contenders. The teams will meet again in Amherst on Feb. 14. Wednesday’s tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
