Preview: Florida Atlantic Owls at Memphis Tigers MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two American Athletic Conference teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Memphis Tigers host the Florida Atlantic Owls in a women’s basketball matchup at FedExForum. Both teams enter with identical 1-3 conference records and overall marks just below .500. Florida Atlantic (6-8) fell 83-75 to Rice on Saturday, while Memphis (6-9) dropped a 74-65 decision at East Carolina the same day. The Owls will lean on guard Jess Moors, who is coming off a strong all-around performance. In the loss to Rice, Moors played 33 minutes, scoring 11 points and dishing out seven assists. Over her last seven games, she has averaged 7.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists. She will be supported by guard Madi Gewirtz, who scored a team-high 22 points against Rice, and Haley Walker, who posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Memphis counters with guard Cori Allen, who scored 10 points against East Carolina. Allen has averaged 7.2 points and 4.6 rebounds over her last five contests. She will need help from teammates Daejah Richmond (8 points, 7 rebounds vs. ECU) and Jordan Hunter (10 points) to bolster the Tigers’ offense. Florida Atlantic has struggled recently, losing five of its last six games, with the lone win a 60-57 victory at Florida International on Dec. 20. Memphis has also found wins scarce, with its last victory against a Division I opponent coming at Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 20. The Tigers routed non-DI Rust 107-63 on Dec. 28 but have lost three straight since. The game is the first of two meetings this season between the programs as American Athletic Conference foes. Following this contest, Florida Atlantic travels to face UAB on Saturday. Memphis will remain at home to host South Florida the same day. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday at FedExForum.
