BALTIMORE (Interstat) — A surging Army team visits a struggling Loyola Maryland squad on Wednesday night in a Patriot League women’s basketball matchup at Reitz Arena. The Army Black Knights (10-3) enter on a high note after a dominant 81-49 road victory at Colgate last Saturday. Taylor Wilson led the way with 17 points in that win, continuing a strong stretch for the forward. Over her last four games, Wilson is averaging 15.0 points, including a 20-point performance against Lehigh on Dec. 31. Army’s 10-3 start is its best in recent seasons, with its losses coming to Lehigh, Eastern Kentucky and Oregon. The Black Knights have won seven of their last eight, showcasing a defense that has held opponents under 65 points in nine of their wins. The Loyola Maryland Greyhounds (5-8) look to rebound from a 63-52 loss at Lafayette, also on Saturday. Despite the defeat, standout Lex Therien posted 20 points and nine rebounds. The forward has been a consistent force, averaging 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game this season. She scored 21 points in a win over American on Dec. 31. Loyola has found wins hard to come by, alternating victories and losses over its past six games. Defense has been an issue, as the Greyhounds have allowed 63 or more points in seven of their eight losses this season. Wednesday’s contest marks the conference opener for both teams. Army will look to leverage its efficient offense and stout defense to start league play on the road. Loyola aims to capitalize on its home court and Therien’s interior presence to upset the favored Black Knights. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST. Army hosts Boston University on Saturday, while Loyola Maryland welcomes Bucknell.
