Preview: James Madison at Georgia Southern Women’s Basketball STATESBORO, Ga. (Interstat) — Two of the Sun Belt Conference’s hottest teams will meet Wednesday when the James Madison Dukes visit the Georgia Southern Eagles at Hanner Fieldhouse. James Madison (11-5) enters on a two-game winning streak, including an 87-52 rout of Texas State on Saturday. The Dukes have won four of their last five, with the lone loss coming in overtime at Marshall on Dec. 20. Georgia Southern (10-4) has also won four of its last five, most recently a 60-50 road victory at Coastal Carolina on Saturday. The Eagles’ only slip in that span was a double-overtime, 87-84 loss at Old Dominion on New Year’s Day. The matchup features a compelling duel between standout guards. James Madison’s Peyton McDaniel is averaging 14 points over her last five games, coming off a 19-point performance against Texas State. She recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Georgia State on Jan. 1. Georgia Southern will counter with Kishyah Anderson, who has been a consistent scoring force. Anderson is averaging 16.2 points over her last five contests, including a 23-point effort in the double-overtime loss at Old Dominion. Both teams have shown defensive prowess. James Madison has held its last two opponents to an average of 58 points, while Georgia Southern limited Coastal Carolina to 50 points on 31.7% shooting in its last outing. The Dukes have relied on balanced scoring behind McDaniel, with Zakiya Stephenson (18 points vs. Texas State) and Ashanti Barnes providing key contributions. The Eagles look to Anderson and Kyla Bryant, who had 15 points and 12 points, respectively, in the win over Coastal Carolina. This contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the schools. They will meet again in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Jan. 17. Wednesday’s winner will gain early momentum in the conference race. Following this game, James Madison visits Georgia State on Saturday, while Georgia Southern hosts Old Dominion the same day.
