Preview: San Jose State at Fresno State Womenâs Basketball FRESNO, Calif. (Interstat) â Two Mountain West womenâs basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Fresno State Bulldogs host the San Jose State Spartans at Save Mart Center. The Bulldogs (6-8) enter the conference matchup looking to snap a two-game skid, most recently a narrow 86-83 road loss to Colorado State on Saturday. Fresno State has found more success at home this season, posting a 4-3 record in Fresno. San Jose State (2-13) aims to halt a five-game losing streak, coming off a lopsided 89-51 home loss to New Mexico. The Spartans are 0-7 in road games this season. A key matchup will feature each teamâs top performer. Fresno Stateâs Avery Watkins is coming off a career-high 25 points, adding eight rebounds in the loss to Colorado State. For San Jose State, Maya Anderson has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 16.6 points and 7.1 rebounds over her last seven games. Anderson posted 29 points in the Spartansâ most recent victory on Dec. 21. The Bulldogs have relied on balanced scoring behind Watkins, with Emilia Long (18 points) and Danae Powell (15 points) also contributing significantly in the close loss to Colorado State. San Jose State will need additional production beyond Anderson and Amira Brown, who scored 16 points against New Mexico. Historically, Fresno State has dominated the series, winning 16 of the last 17 meetings. The teams will meet again in San Jose on Feb. 4. Wednesdayâs contest is the first of two straight home games for Fresno State, which hosts Utah State on Jan. 14. San Jose State returns home to face Air Force on Jan. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
