Preview: New Mexico Lobos at Colorado State Rams FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Interstat) — A key early Mountain West Conference clash awaits Wednesday night when the surging Colorado State Rams host the New Mexico Lobos in a women’s basketball matchup at Moby Arena. The Rams (13-2) enter as one of the conference’s hottest teams, winners of nine straight games since a narrow 62-60 loss at Stanford on Nov. 29. Their most recent victory was an 86-83 home win over Fresno State on Saturday. Guard Lexus Bargesser has been instrumental during the streak, averaging 14.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists over her last five games. She posted 17 points, five rebounds and six assists against Fresno State. The Lobos (11-4) have won three of their last four, including a dominant 89-51 road win at San Jose State on Saturday. In that victory, guard Kaia Foster delivered a standout performance off the bench, scoring 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds in just eight minutes of play. Her efficiency provides a spark for a New Mexico team looking to notch a signature road win. Colorado State’s strength has been its consistent defense, holding opponents to an average of 52.1 points during its nine-game win streak. New Mexico counters with offensive firepower, averaging 70.1 points per game this season. The Rams will aim to protect their home court, where they are 8-1 this season. The Lobos are 4-3 in true road games. This contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams; they will meet again in Albuquerque on Feb. 14. Wednesday’s winner will gain an early advantage in the Mountain West standings as both teams look to challenge for the conference title. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.
