NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — A surging Longwood women’s basketball team looks to extend its win streak when it visits a Charleston Southern squad seeking its first consecutive victories of the season in a Big South Conference matchup Wednesday. The Lancers (10-4) have won three straight, including a dominant 89-56 league-opening win over Presbyterian on Saturday. The Buccaneers (4-11) snapped a five-game skid with a 63-59 road victory at Radford the same day. Longwood’s success is built on balance and efficiency. In the win over Presbyterian, Otaifo Esenabhalu posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes, while Frances Ulysse added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Esenabhalu has recorded double-doubles in two of her last three games. Charleston Southern, however, boasts the conference’s most dynamic scorer in Tyonna Bailey. The guard is averaging 21.2 points over her last five games, including a 31-point, 9-rebound performance at North Carolina and a 28-point effort in a win over South Carolina Upstate. She nearly secured a double-double in the win at Radford, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds. The Lancers have shown offensive firepower, scoring 98 points against UNC Wilmington and 89 against Presbyterian during their streak. Their four losses have come against high-major opponents or in close contests, with the lone blemish a three-point defeat to Troy. Conversely, the Buccaneers have struggled against a tough schedule, with losses to Power Five programs Georgia, North Carolina and Clemson. Their offense has been inconsistent, failing to reach 55 points in four of their last seven games prior to the Radford win. Longwood leads the all-time series 14-10, but Charleston Southern won the most recent meeting 72-68 last February at the CSU Field House. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST at the CSU Field House. Longwood visits UNC Asheville next on Saturday, while Charleston Southern travels to face Winthrop the same day.
