GEORGETOWN, BUTLER SEEK BIG EAST MOMENTUM AT HINKLE INDIANAPOLIS (Interstat) — Two teams looking to steady themselves in Big East Conference play will meet Wednesday when the Georgetown Hoyas visit the Butler Bulldogs at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. The women’s basketball matchup features Georgetown (8-6, 1-2 Big East) and Butler (7-8, 1-2), both coming off narrow road losses this past Sunday that dropped them below .500 in the league standings. The Hoyas fell 52-51 to Xavier on a last-second basket, while the Bulldogs lost 67-59 at Creighton. Georgetown will lean on forward Destiny Agubata, who is coming off a strong 12-point, six-rebound performance against Xavier. Over her last four games, Agubata is averaging 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. She will need to help the Hoyas bounce back from an offensive struggle at Seton Hall on Dec. 31, where they managed only 36 points in a lopsided loss. Butler counters with guard Saniya Jackson, who scored a team-high 17 points in the loss to Creighton. Jackson has provided a scoring spark for the Bulldogs, who have shown offensive firepower in non-conference wins but have struggled against the league’s top tier, including a 94-47 loss to Connecticut on Dec. 28. The Hoyas have shown resilience in close games, with an overtime loss at Providence and the one-point heartbreaker to Xavier. Khia Miller, who led Georgetown with 18 points last outing, will be another key factor. Butler’s Addison Baxter, who had 14 points and seven rebounds against Creighton, will be crucial in the frontcourt battle. The Bulldogs will aim to protect their home floor, where they are 5-2 this season, including a conference win over Xavier. This game represents a critical opportunity for both squads to build confidence before a tough stretch. Georgetown faces a quick turnaround with a visit to DePaul on Saturday. Butler hosts Providence next Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The all-time series is narrowly led by Georgetown, but Butler won the most recent meeting last season.
