Preview of Wednesday’s Mid-American Conference Women’s Basketball Game BUFFALO, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to reverse prolonged losing streaks will meet Wednesday when the Buffalo Bulls host the Northern Illinois Huskies in a Mid-American Conference women’s basketball game at Alumni Arena. Both teams enter with identical 2-11 overall records. Each is coming off a loss this past Saturday, extending difficult stretches for both programs. Northern Illinois has dropped nine consecutive games since a Nov. 24 win over Chicago State. Buffalo has lost five straight and eight of its last nine. The matchup presents a critical opportunity for either squad to gain momentum in early conference play. A key player for Northern Illinois will be Nevaeh Wingate. The guard/forward has been a consistent scorer during the skid, averaging 12.8 points over her last four games. She led the Huskies with 13 points and five rebounds in their 74-56 loss to Ball State on Jan. 3. Buffalo will counter with forward Meg Lucas, who is coming off a double-double performance. Lucas posted 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Bulls’ 83-65 defeat at Western Michigan on Saturday. Her presence on the boards will be vital against a Huskies team that has been outrebounded in most contests this season. In the Jan. 3 losses, Northern Illinois received 13 points from Nadechka Laccen to join Wingate in double figures, while Buffalo’s Paula Lopez scored a team-high 17 points. Recent history shows both teams have struggled offensively. Northern Illinois has failed to reach 60 points in nine straight games. Buffalo has been held under 70 points in all but two games this season, highlighting the potential for a defensive struggle. Wednesday’s game is the first of two scheduled meetings this MAC season. The rematch is set for Feb. 18 in Buffalo. Following this contest, Northern Illinois will host Bowling Green on Saturday. Buffalo will remain home to face Ohio on Saturday.
