Preview: Rockets Face Cardinals in MAC Womenās Basketball Clash MUNCIE, Ind. (Interstat) ā A surging Ball State squad hosts a Toledo team seeking consistency as Mid-American Conference womenās basketball play continues Wednesday at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals (11-4, 1-0 MAC) enter with momentum, having won seven of their last eight games. Their most recent victory was a 74-56 road win at Northern Illinois on Saturday. Ball Stateās offense has been potent, averaging 86 points over its last three contests. A primary reason for that success is forward Tessa Towers, who is playing at an all-conference level. Over her last four games, Towers is averaging 19.3 points and 8.8 rebounds, including a 22-point, 13-rebound performance in a 102-73 rout of Akron on Dec. 31. The Toledo Rockets (6-6, 0-1) look to rebound from a 63-55 conference-opening loss at Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. The Rockets have struggled to find a rhythm, alternating wins and losses for much of the season. Toledo will rely on forward Evalyse Cole, who leads the team in minutes and provides versatile production. Cole is coming off an 11-point, three-rebound, two-block effort in the loss to Miami. Her activity on both ends will be crucial against Ball Stateās frontcourt. Ball State holds a significant edge in recent performance and home-court advantage. The Cardinalsā only losses since late November have come against power-conference opponent Louisville and strong mid-majors South Dakota State and Davidson. For Toledo, containing Towers and the Cardinalsā high-scoring attack is the paramount challenge. The Rockets have shown defensive capability, holding three opponents under 50 points this season, but Ball State presents their toughest MAC test to date. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday. The game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the divisional rivals.
