(Interstat) — A surging Virginia Tech squad looks to extend its winning streak when it hosts Miami (Fla.) in an Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball matchup on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, at Cassell Coliseum. The 15th-ranked Hokies (11-3) have won four straight, including a decisive 79-54 road victory over Florida State in their last ACC contest. Virginia Tech has been dominant at home this season, boasting a 7-1 record in Blacksburg. Miami (9-4) enters conference play on a three-game win streak, most recently defeating Stetson 77-45 on Sunday. The Hurricanes, however, are seeking their first true road win of the season after falling at Iowa and Wake Forest in earlier away games. The matchup features two of the conference’s top forwards. Virginia Tech is led by Carys Baker, who is averaging 21.3 points over her last three games. She scored 23 points with seven rebounds and four assists in the win over Radford. For Miami, Ra Shaya Kyle has been a consistent double-double threat. She is coming off a 14-point, 12-rebound performance against Stetson and has recorded four double-doubles in her last six games. Kyle’s interior presence will be critical against a stout Hokies frontcourt. Virginia Tech holds the superior record and home-court advantage, but the Hurricanes’ recent form suggests a competitive conference opener. The Hokies won both meetings last season.
