Preview: Idaho State at Sacramento State Women’s Basketball SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — A pair of Big Sky Conference teams trending in opposite directions will meet on New Year’s Day when the Idaho State Bengals visit the Sacramento State Hornets on Thursday. Idaho State (7-4) enters conference play with momentum, having won three of its last four games. The Bengals are coming off a 59-56 road victory at Utah Valley on Dec. 20, a game that featured a historic triple-double from guard Kacey Spink (5 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists). The Bengals are led by guard Tasia Jordan, who is averaging 18.2 points over her last five games. She scored 26 points with six rebounds in the win over Utah Valley. Forward Piper Carlson added a double-double in that contest with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sacramento State (6-7) looks to snap a three-game skid, all on the road, most recently a 56-61 loss at San Jose State on Dec. 21. The Hornets have struggled away from Colberg Court, posting a 1-6 record in road and neutral-site games. The Hornets will rely on forward Keanna Salave’a, who recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds against San Jose State. Guard Rubi Gray, the team’s leading scorer in that loss with 16 points, provides backcourt scoring. Idaho State holds a narrow edge in the recent series, winning three of the last five matchups. Last season, the teams split their two games, each winning on their home floor. Thursday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. PST at Colberg Court and marks the conference opener for both programs. Idaho State continues its road trip at Portland State on Saturday. Sacramento State remains home to host Weber State on Saturday.
