SMITHFIELD, R.I. (Interstat) — A surging Bryant squad hosts a New Hampshire team finding its footing when the Bulldogs and Wildcats meet in a nonconference women’s basketball matchup on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. Bryant (10-3) has won three straight, including an impressive 80-71 road victory at Boston College on Dec. 9, and enters the new year with one of the region’s best records. The Bulldogs’ defense has been a cornerstone, holding opponents to 53 points or fewer in eight games this season. They are led by forward Nia Scott, who is averaging 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Scott posted 22 points and nine rebounds in a dominant win over Georgian Court on Dec. 19. New Hampshire (6-7) has won three of its last four, shaking off a slow start to the season. The Wildcats are powered by the dynamic play of guard Eva DeChent, who is in the midst of a stellar stretch. Over her last five games, DeChent is averaging 22.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest. She erupted for 33 points in a road win at Central Connecticut on Dec. 17 and followed with 24 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 64-59 victory over New Haven on Sunday. The game at Chace Athletic Center represents a final tune-up before both teams dive into their respective conference schedules. Bryant begins America East play at home against Maine on Saturday, while New Hampshire opens its conference slate at Vermont the same day. For the Wildcats, containing Bryant’s balanced attack, which also features guard Mia Mancini (18 points, eight rebounds against Franklin Pierce), will be key. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, must devise a plan to slow DeChent, who has shown she can single-handedly take over a game. Tipoff is set for Thursday afternoon.
