FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) ā The undefeated and No. 1-ranked Vanderbilt womenās basketball team puts its perfect record on the line Thursday when it opens Southeastern Conference play on the road against Arkansas at Bud Walton Arena. The Commodores (13-0) are one of the nationās last remaining unbeaten teams and have dominated nonconference play, winning by an average margin of 33.2 points. Their most recent outing was a 109-50 rout of Stonehill on Dec. 28, where guard Mikayla Blakes scored 21 points and dished out seven assists in just 25 minutes. Blakes has been the catalyst for Vanderbiltās high-powered offense, averaging 21.6 points over her last five games. She dropped a season-high 28 points in a win over Virginia on Dec. 3. Arkansas (11-4) aims to play spoiler and rebound from a surprising 81-72 home loss to Arkansas State on Sunday. The Razorbacks, led by guard Taleyah Jones, have shown offensive firepower but have struggled against higher-caliber competition, with three of their four losses coming against Power Five opponents. Jones is coming off an 18-point, five-rebound performance in the loss and has averaged 17.3 points over her last four contests. She will need a significant contribution to challenge Vanderbiltās stifling defense, which has held opponents to just 50.2 points per game. The matchup pits Vanderbiltās nation-leading efficiency against an Arkansas team seeking a signature win to bolster its postseason resume. The Razorbacks will rely on their home-court advantage at Bud Walton, where they are 8-2 this season. For Vanderbilt, a victory would solidify its top ranking and provide momentum heading into a brutal SEC slate. For Arkansas, it represents a prime opportunity to reset its conference campaign after a disappointing nonconference finale. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
