Preview: Northwestern Wildcats at Washington Huskies SEATTLE (Interstat) â The Washington Huskies, boasting one of the nationâs top records, will look to continue their strong non-conference play when they host the struggling Northwestern Wildcats in a Big Ten womenâs basketball matchup Monday at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Washington (10-2) enters the contest having won eight of its last nine games, including a dominant 90-50 road victory over Pacific on Dec. 21. The Huskiesâ success has been fueled by a balanced attack and the standout play of sophomore guard Sayvia Sellers. Sellers is averaging 21.2 points over her last five games, including a 30-point performance in a win over Green Bay on Dec. 13. Northwestern (6-6) seeks to halt a five-game losing skid, its most recent a 62-75 defeat at George Washington on Dec. 21. Despite the teamâs struggles, junior guard Caroline Lau has been a consistent bright spot, nearly averaging a triple-double in recent contests. Over her last five games, Lau has posted averages of 12.2 points, 9.4 assists and 5.0 rebounds, including a 14-assist game against Ohio State on Dec. 7. The matchup pits Washingtonâs high-powered offense, which has scored 79 or more points in six games this season, against a Northwestern team that has allowed an average of 77.2 points during its current losing streak. The Huskies have been particularly strong at home, going 6-0 in Seattle with an average margin of victory of 28.8 points. For Northwestern to pull the upset, containing Sellers and finding secondary scoring behind Lau and forward Tayla Thomas will be critical. Washington aims to leverage its depth and home-court advantage to solidify its resume before full-time Big Ten conference play intensifies in January. Mondayâs game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. PST tip-off. It is part of the Big Tenâs expanded conference schedule following the leagueâs recent realignment.
